ENTITY PROFILE
The Light Alloys and Surface Treatments Design Centre (CDAL) is a group of the Universitat
Politècnica de Catalunya dedicated to applied research and technological innovation. CDAL
has two lines of research, one on Light Alloys and the other on Surface Treatments and
Coatings. Within the first line, one of the most important area is the development and
optimization of forming processes of aluminium in semi-solid state (SMM). The second line
develops wear and/or corrosion resistant coatings, specifically by high-velocity thermal spray
process (HVOF).

R&D: PROJECTS AND PRODUCTS

RIS3CAT-BASE3D. P2 FUSED3D. Objective: improvement of forming systems of
components through deposition of aluminum in a semi-solid state.
Development of new additive manufacturing processes for the production of metallic
components (NewMAM).
Development of new HVOF thermal spray coatings for application in different industrial
sectors.
