INSTRUMENTAL TECHNIQUES FOR ANALYSIS AND CHARACTERISATION
* Chemical characterisation techniques: mass spectrometry, gas/mass chromatography. Elemental analysis ICP-OES
and CHONS.
* Thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTA) in an oxidising atmosphere (air), inert (Ar) or reductive (10% H2/Ar).
* Properties of solids: textural and chemisorption.
* X-ray diffraction with structural analysis PDF and controlled atmosphere chamber up to 900 °C and 10 bar.
The laboratory has all the necessary elements to perform X-Ray diffraction experiments under Bragg-Brentano and
transmission configurations with standard and capillaries holders. Further analysis can be made with low angle XRay
diffraction, a fundamental tool for the analysis of mesostructured materials, and grazing incidence X-Ray diffraction for
the study of thin layers. These experiments can be performed in very short intervals due to the use of more
sophisticated and rapid linear detectors, one of them with energy filtering. The XRDLab has a reaction chamber for
obtaining diffraction patterns in different gas atmospheres (0.001 to 10 bar pressure) and at different temperatures (up
to 900 ºC).
* Spectroscopy: IR (DRIFT, ATR and VEEMAX), UV-vis-NIR, Raman and Fluorescence.
* Thermal Diffusivity determination.
* Microscopy: Atomic force with next probe, SEM scanning electron and optical.
* Biotechnological characterisation techniques: GC, HPLC equipped with different columns and detectors (IR, MS,
UVVIS, HPAEC-PAD). Electrophoresis instrumentation for recombinant DNA technology, protein purification and
analysis.
