Terrestrial Ecology Group (TEG-UAM)
ENTITY PROFILE
This group has been working since the 1990s on research concerned with ecosystem
management, conservation and restoration. It has produced pioneering projects and
publications about applied vertebrate ecology, environmental impact assessment and
corrective measures. In recent years, the group has studied roadkill in high speed railways and
roads, the effectiveness of wildlife crossings in motorways for the prevention of vertebrate
population fragmentation, and the effects of linear infrastructures on populations of small-
mammals, lagomorphs, carnivores and birds of prey living in the surrounding areas.
AREAS OF ACTIVITY UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH CENTRES
Railway- and road-kill Linear infraestructure design & greening
Fragmentation of animal populations Authomatic faunal monitoring
Impacts on ecosystems Eficacy of mitigation measures
