         DESCRIPTION AND GOALS OF THE ORGANISATION

        Materials Technological Centre. R&D activities on metallic and non metallic
        materials, development of new materials and processes.
        Areas of Steel and Metallurgy, Ceramics and refractories, nanomaterials,
        fotonics, numerical simulation (structural, thermal, fluid dynamics, etc.),
        electronics. Technological services: mechanical testing (static, dynamic,
        high and low temperature and multiaxial), chemical analysis, metrology
        (dimension, mass, temperature, pressure, electrical, etc.). ENAC accredited
        tests and analysis. Failure analysis and in situ characterization. Specialized
        Rail Unit (new grade development and design, numerical simulation,
        testing, rolling contact fatigue, etc.)

         TEST FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, TYPES OF TESTING AND/OR 53*"-4

        * Mechanical testing laboratory: Universal static and dynamic testing machines up to 1MN capacity.
        * Tensile, and fracture testing at low/high temperature, crack growth, Charpy and drop impact, axial and multiaxial
        fatigue, 3 and 4 point bend testing.
        * Residual stress characterization by cutting, hole drilling and XRD.
        * Dynamic torsion testing up to 20 000 Nām. Multiaxial testing T-slot table of 4000 x 2500 mm (4 actuators up to 175 kN)
        * Chemical analysis, hydrogen measurement in metals and hardness. In situ analysis (CQ, hardness, and Residual
        Stress).
        * Development of new rail steel grades. Fusion and casting pilot plant.
        * Full metallographic laboratory (including SEM, FEG-SEM, XRD, dilatometers and TSG).
        * Rolling strategies, heat treatment and thermomechanical route design.
        * Wear and tribology laboratory (linear, pin on disk, twin disk).
        * 1:1 Scale Rolling Contact Fatigue rig with vertical and lateral loading capacity.
        * Corrosion and accelerated ageing cabinets (salt spray and QUV).
        * Multichannel dynamic logging equipment up to 48 channels (strain gages, LVDT, thermocouples). Thermography.
        * Numerical simulation FEM (structural, thermal, fluid dynamics and coupled analysis).
        * Welding pilot plants (SMAW, GMAW, TIG, CMT. SAW).
        * Welding robots  and Welding Procedure Specifications.
        * WPS and welders homologations.
        * High resolution 3D scanning, digital and analog holography.
        * Pressure, mass, temperature, torque, dimensional, etc.  calibration.
        * Other surface and coatings equipments and techniques (PVD. CVD, cold rolling, galvanizing, etc.).
        * Advanced characterization (HET, LCF, EBSD, Creep, Stress Rupture, CTOD, J-integral, etc.).
