UNIVERSITAT POLITÈCNICA DE CATALUNYA
Acoustical and Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (LEAM)
ENTITY PROFILE
The Acoustical and Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (LEAM-UPC) is a research group
expert on assessment and control techniques of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
(UPC). The aim of the group is the research and development of methodologies to deal with
vibroacoustic problems. In the railway framework, the group's most important research line is
related to the prediction and control of railway-induced noise and vibration in nearby residential
buildings or other facilities. The group is also working in railway-induced noise in passenger
stations or inside the railway vehicle cars.
AREAS OF ACTIVITY UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH CENTRES
• Railway-induced noise and vibration • Vibration energy harvesting in bogies
• Railway vehicle dynamics • Predictive maintenance of bogies
• Active noise and vibration control • Assessment of railway-induced
• Pantograph/catenary interaction environmental noise
