ENTITY PROFILE
The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) is one of six public universities located in
the Community of Madrid. It was established under Spanish Law by Royal Decree(RD)
494/1971 of 11 March. It currently has 20 centers where students are assigned degrees
level qualifi cations in all branches of engineering. In its research structure, the UPM has
225 recognized research groups, two of which, the Microwave and Radar Group (GMR),
Department of Signals, Systems and Radiocommunications (E.T.S. Telecommunications
Engineering) and the Radiocommunications Group (GRC), Department of Audiovisual
Engineering and Communications (E.U. Telecommunications Engineering) have worked
together for more than 10 years in the developing of projects related to planning and
deployment of signaling and radio systems in railway environments. UNIVERSITIES AND RESEARCH CENTRES
