DESCRIPTION AND GOALS OF THE ORGANISATION
The lab activities are focused on high voltage research and testing. It has
capabilities to test electrical insulation of electrical machines and power
cables. Its research topics are dielectrics materials characterization and
advanced instrumentation for the monitoring of high voltage assets.

TEST FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, TYPES OF TESTING AND/OR 53*"-4
Equipment:
* High voltage sources up to 100 kVrms.
* Current source up to 600 A (DC).
* Commercial detectors of partial discharges, tangent delta, insulation resistance and surge tests.
* Switching and lighting impulse tests source.
* Infrared camera.
* Climatic chamber.
* Wide band oscilloscopes (up to 40 GS/s).
* Frequency Response Analysis (From 1 mHz to 30 MHz).
* Gaussmeter.
* Electro-acoustic pulse for the measurement of Space Charge.
* Advanced sensors and instrumentation for the measurement of partial discharges.
Tests:
* Dielectric strength (AC, DC switching and lightning impulse, surge test). Insulation resistance.
* Partial discharges.
* Tangent delta (VLF and 50 Hz).
* IR thermography.
* Ageing of electrical machines, power cables and dielectrics materials.
* Dielectric materials characterization (frequency analysis, space charge, resistivity...).
