LAB. CONST. ENGINEERING (LabIC)
E.T.S. INGENIERIA DE CAMINOS, CANALES Y PUERTOS
UNIVERSIDAD DE GRANADA
DESCRIPTION AND GOALS OF THE ORGANISATION
The group LabIC.UGR, located in the Civil Engineering School at the
University of Granada, is composed of a multidisciplinary team of
researchers. Among the various lines of research conducted by the team,
one of them is focused on the design and evaluation of the mechanical
performance of materials for its application in railway infrastructures. This
group is equipped with advanced apparatus and facilities that allow for the
completion of full-scale tests under different loading and environmental
conditions. In addition, LabIC has extensive experience with working on
national and international projects of I+D+I in collaboration with a range of
companies and administrations.
AREAS OF ACTIVITY
t Evaluation of the behaviour of track components t Analysis of the effect of maintenance tasks
t Standardized tests for various materials t Design and development of new technical solutions
t Full-scale tests for railway track sections t Fatigue studies of various track components
t Studies under different service conditions (Tª, load, etc.) t Evaluation of diverse parameters (K, Ed, Settlement,..)
TEST FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, TYPES OF TESTING AND/OR 53*"-4
* Framework for dynamic testing in order to study the mechanical behaviour of the various railway track components.
* Different sized boxes to analyse the performance of full scale (1:1) track sections.
* Facilities for the evaluation of different configurations of the track section under various conditions of service such as
temperature, stress, moisture, etc.
* Permeameters, pressure cells, thermal chamber, infrared lamps (temperature), climate chambers, etc.
* Equipment for analysing rail pads (static and dynamic stiffness, attenuation of impacts, fatigue, etc.).
* Tests for fasteners (inclined sleeper test, clamping force, longitudinal rail restraint, etc.).
* Equipment for the evaluation of sleepers (cracking resistance, repeated loads, analysis of reinforcements, etc.).
* Tests for under-sleeper pads (static and dynamic modulus, pull-off tests, lateral strength, etc.).
* Evaluation of ballast (physical and mechanical properties, effect of the maintenance tasks, fouled ballast, etc.).
* Equipment for testing under-ballast mats (long-term fatigue, climate deterioration, behaviour in a ballast box, etc.).
* Tests for subballast (bearing capacity, punching strength, drainage capacity, etc.).
