EMC TEST LABORATORY

        ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY GROUP

        UNIVERSITAT POLITECNICA DE CATALUNYA

DESCRIPTION AND GOALS OF THE ORGANISATION

The Electromagnetic Compatibility Group (GCEM) is part of the Department
of Electronic Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
GCEM is made up of a team of researchers and highly qualified technical
staff who are actively involved in applied research projects and technology
transfer activities to the industrial sector. The group focuses its activity on
EMC innovation projects for companies. It therefore has a fully equipped
laboratory for assessing, testing and measuring electronic equipment. It
also has all the hardware and software resources necessary for the
development of numeric simulation projects in EMC.

         AREAS OF ACTIVITY

t EMC tests according to EN 50121 series t EMC trainings
t In-situ emissions measurements t Tailor made tests

t Electronic design t Electrical safety
t International research projects t Numerical simulation

TEST FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, TYPES OF TESTING AND/OR TRI"LS

In GCEM we have an anechoic chamber to carry out radiated emission tests for domestic, industrial equipment and
automotive components. We also can perform radiated immunity tests up to 30 V/m. In the test lab conducted emissions
and immunity tests can be carried out including test such as burst, surge, etc and other test like electrostatic discharges
        (ESD).

Furthermore, GCEM advises its customers on methods to reduce interference and increase the immunity of electronic
systems by: the concept of electric schematics, the design of printed circuit boards, the choice of right components,
wiring routing and filtering needs, system architecture and shielding needs and programming software.

GCEM has the ability to transfer current knowledge in numerical simulation to the real needs of companies in the
sectors of electronic and telecommunications. The numerical simulation in the field of electromagnetic compatibility has
a wide spectrum of available applications in the electrical and electronic development.

Lately, GCEM is actively involved in various research projects both nationally and internationally. The main research
areas are: near field measurement, radiated transient measurements and numerical simulation for EMC. These
research areas are applied to the railway, aerospace, electro medical and EMC instrumentation sectors.
